Both can protect applications. They are not the same buy.
When to use each
Use Cloudflare if the problem is the public edge: websites, apps, and APIs that need a WAF, unmetered DDoS on Cloudflare Enterprise, and a CDN on the same network. Deployment is a DNS change. Managed WAF rulesets update without a professional-services project. Bot management sits in the higher Cloudflare tiers. API Shield is part of the same platform. Zero Trust is available there, not as a bolt-on from another vendor. The commercial path through Vigilbase is Cloudflare Enterprise licensing and Managed Cloudflare operations, scoped to your requirements.
Use Imperva if you have a dedicated security team and the requirement is deeper than the HTTP edge. Imperva is strong at database security, data masking, and RASP. Advanced Bot Protection and API Security are separate products. DDoS is tiered and typically metered. There is no free tier. Pricing is custom enterprise, usually an annual contract, often with professional services. That is a fair fit for a regulated estate that already staffs a security operations team and needs the database layer, not only the WAF.
Do not buy Cloudflare to replace a database-security programme. Do not buy Imperva if what you actually need is an operated CDN and WAF.
How they differ
Cloudflare publishes 330+ cities in 100+ countries on an anycast network. The Cloudflare edge is also the CDN. Imperva is a security vendor that added delivery; the center of gravity is WAF, data, and RASP.
Operations differ. Cloudflare WAF is meant to go live with a DNS change and managed rules. Imperva usually needs more configuration and a team that will tune it. That is not a slight. It is why Imperva still wins when the work is database security and runtime protection.
How Vigilbase fits
Vigilbase runs Cloudflare on the Vigilbase Platform, the agentic cybersecurity operating system. Its native Cloudflare integration lets agents watch the edge, remediate in scope, and verify the close. Humans set the authority and take what is out of scope. We can scope Cloudflare Enterprise, deploy the WAF, and run the account after go-live.
We are not an Imperva shop. If RASP or database security is the requirement, keep Imperva for that layer. If the requirement is an operated Cloudflare edge, that is the conversation we will have.
