SASE comparison

Cloudflare One vs Palo Alto Prisma Access

Both deliver SASE from the cloud for remote users and branches. Pick Prisma Access when Palo Alto Networks firewalls, Panorama, or Strata Cloud Manager already define your security policy and you want the same model in the cloud. Pick Cloudflare One when you want Zero Trust access, a secure web gateway, and your public apps' CDN, WAF, and DDoS protection on one network, from one vendor.

Prisma Access and Cloudflare One details on this page are summarized from Palo Alto Networks and Cloudflare documentation and product pages. Features, licensing, and locations change, so confirm current terms with each vendor before you buy.

Vendor sources checked

That is the decision. The rest is how each is deployed, licensed, and operated.

When to use each

Use Prisma Access if your network security already runs on Palo Alto Networks. Prisma Access is managed from Strata Cloud Manager or Panorama, secures remote networks such as branches with cloud-based next-generation firewalls, and sends logs to Strata Logging Service. Mobile users connect with the GlobalProtect app or through an explicit proxy, and Clientless VPN covers unmanaged devices. Keeping one policy model across your firewalls and cloud enforcement is the main reason to choose it.

Use Cloudflare One if you are not tied to a firewall vendor's policy model, or you want SASE on the same network that serves and protects your public websites and APIs. Cloudflare One combines Access, a Secure Web Gateway, Cloudflare Tunnel, the Cloudflare One Client, CASB, DLP, Remote Browser Isolation, Email security, Cloudflare WAN, and Cloudflare Network Firewall under one control plane.

Palo Alto Networks describes Prisma Access as security for your users at headquarters, in branches, and on the road. Delivering and protecting your public websites is a separate buying decision there. With Cloudflare, it runs on the same network.

How they differ

Prisma Access organizes deployment around mobile users, remote networks, and service connections. Service connections are IPSec tunnels that let mobile users reach internal resources, where your license includes them, and a ZTNA Connector gives access to private apps without IPSec tunnels or routing changes. All remote network locations you onboard are fully meshed.

Cloudflare One connects private apps with Cloudflare Tunnel, which makes outbound-only connections from your infrastructure, so apps need no public IP address. Devices connect with the Cloudflare One Client, browser-based access works for internal web apps, SSH, and remote desktop without installing software, and branches connect through Cloudflare WAN over IPsec, GRE, or direct interconnect.

Palo Alto Networks says Prisma Access provides over 100 locations worldwide, each mapped to a security compute location. Cloudflare's network page lists 348 cities in more than 100 countries and says every service runs in every data center. The numbers are counted differently, so test from the countries and offices where your users work.

Licensing and pricing

Prisma Access is licensed in units. For mobile users, a unit is one user, measured as unique users over the last 30 days; for remote networks, a unit is 1 Mbps of bandwidth. The current editions are Secure Web Gateway, ZTNA, and Enterprise.

Cloudflare One subscriptions are made of seats. A user consumes one seat when they authenticate through Access or when their device connects through Gateway, however many apps they use. Through Vigilbase, Cloudflare One is licensed as Cloudflare Enterprise, in our Interna package for staff and internal apps, and scoped together with Managed Cloudflare operations.

Because one model counts users and bandwidth and the other counts active users, compare written quotes for the same users, sites, features, and support.

Already run Palo Alto Networks?

Keeping Palo Alto Networks does not rule out Vigilbase. Vigilbase OS, the cybersecurity operating system, has a native Palo Alto Networks connector for traffic and threat logs, with analysis switched on. Those events sit in one auditable, queryable record alongside your other security tools, and the Vigil agent investigates high-severity incidents while Vigilbase analysts handle exceptions.

Log collection differs by product, so confirm which of your Palo Alto Networks log sources the connector covers. Live response actions run only where Vigilbase OS supports them, which is Cloudflare today; for Palo Alto Networks, the investigation returns the steps for your team.

How Vigilbase fits

Vigilbase licenses Cloudflare Enterprise and operates it as Managed Cloudflare; we are not a Palo Alto Networks reseller. We can scope Cloudflare One for your users, apps, and sites, plan a phased move off VPN or another SASE service, and run Access, Gateway, and incidents after go-live. Agents work from evidence and remediate in scope. Humans set the authority, approve changes when required, and handle exceptions.

If your firewall estate and Panorama policy are the reason Prisma Access works for you, we will say so. If the job is Zero Trust and the public edge on one Cloudflare deployment with an operator on it, that is the conversation we will have.

Frequently asked questions

Is Cloudflare One an alternative to Palo Alto Prisma Access?

It covers the same core SASE jobs: a secure web gateway, Zero Trust access to private apps, CASB, DLP, browser isolation, and branch connectivity. The deciding factor is usually policy. Prisma Access extends a Palo Alto Networks firewall policy model into the cloud, while Cloudflare One brings its own control plane. How is Prisma Access licensed compared with Cloudflare One?

Prisma Access counts each mobile user as one unit, based on unique users over the last 30 days, and remote networks in units of 1 Mbps, across Secure Web Gateway, ZTNA, and Enterprise editions. Cloudflare One counts seats, one per active user. Through Vigilbase, Cloudflare One is licensed as Cloudflare Enterprise and scoped with Managed Cloudflare operations.Cloudflare Enterprise licensing explainedCompare Core, Priority and Critical

Can I keep my Palo Alto firewalls and use Cloudflare One?

Yes. Cloudflare One does not require you to remove on-premises firewalls. A design can keep data center firewalls in place and move remote access and internet filtering to Cloudflare One. Does Vigilbase work with Palo Alto Networks?

How do I move from Prisma Access to Cloudflare One?

Plan it in phases. Map your Prisma Access security policies and decryption rules, connect your identity provider, and pilot a representative user group with the Cloudflare One Client. Move private apps behind Access and Cloudflare Tunnel, cut branches over one at a time with a rollback path, and retire Prisma Access policies only after access and inspection are verified.Zero Trust network access explainedChoose who operates Cloudflare
